Hannah and Sam

My earliest memories of Granny and Grandad are from the bungalow in Ticehurst, playing shove ha’penny and bagatelle on the dining table. I also remember walking up to the shop with Grandad to get the paper, knowing full well that I’d also get a curly wurly if I went with him! There are lots of memories of Granny teaching me how to play piano, and generally exploring the garden there, finding strawberries and running around the planters (which I remember feeling huge at the time!).

A slightly later memory which stands out is our family trip to Madeira, and the infamous walk Grandad took us on “which should only take an hour”…. 5 hours later in the midday sun, scrambling over rocks and both Granny and I suffering from heatstroke, I think that was the last time any of us trusted Grandad’s planned walks!!

More recently I have lots of happy memories of being down in Cornwall with them, exploring beaches and coastal paths, and the little things like playing games and doing puzzles in the lounge. A memory that stands out for Sam is our trip down over the August bank holiday weekend in 2019, where Granny and Grandad showed us Bedruthen Steps (photos attached from this day).

I can’t quite believe you’ve been married 60 years, congratulations! Is it pushing it to say “here’s to the next 60”?!
