Gwen and Alan’s special journey started when they worked together initially at the Gypsum Mines and later at Guinness Hop Farms in Bodiam.
Alan was welcomed into Gwen’s relatively large family straight away and together they embarked on a very special journey together.
Initially relying on a motorbike to travel around to football fixtures and dates, Alan soon felt the need to impress his new girlfriend by upgrading to a blue Bubble Car – and so the journey began!
On 30 March 1964 after one of the coldest winters on record they tied the knot. It was Easter Monday, the Beatles were in the charts with “You can’t buy me love”.
The village church at Bodiam was the venue, with a reception at the Castle Inn (we think) and a honeymoon on the Isle of Wight
From the cafe in Hastings which made the best milky coffee and provided the venue for early dates through to the places that they have lived, worked and brought up their family.
After living most of their lives in the South East Gwen and Alan retired to Cornwall to look after their youngest grandchildren so this is a trip down memory lane remembering places that they used to know well at various stages in their lives together.
Wherever they have lived and worked Gwen and Alan have made friends easily and been key players in their local communities.
Whether it was playing football and cricket in the early years or playing the organ, running the Junior Choir or being the Treasurer for the Village Club in Ticehurst.

From starting their family, moving home, many holidays at home and in later years abroad. When Rebecca arrived in their early forties in many ways they were given the chance to go round again and they grasped it with both hands.
